A Taste of Broome is set to return in August!

In its 11th year, A Taste of Broome is set to return in August with an exciting three-day celebration of diverse cultures that promises to delight the senses and entertain the whole family. Festival goers will experience the best of Broome’s local food, culture, art, performance, music, theatre and film, with the Cultural Hub at the Goolarri Media Amphitheatre a hive of more free activities and events than ever.

Designed to create an all-inclusive Broome experience, the 2023 festival will continue to celebrate the cultural melting pot of the town, with the sights, sounds and tastes of Indigenous multiculturalism creating an unforgettable experience for all.

Schedule of Events

Thursday 24th August

5:00pm. Music & Picture Show: This award-winning, multi-arts performance is not to be missed if you’re wanting to immerse yourself in the rich history of Broome through song, stories, pictures and people. A smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country will be followed by “Nurlu”, traditional and contemporary Indigenous dance. This will be followed by a true Broome visual feast – the official Music and Picture Show featuring a wealth of musical talent from around the region. A variety of culinary delights and cuisines will be available to purchase from Broome’s multicultural chefs to satisfy your taste buds and fill your bellies.


Friday 25th August

9:00am Narlijia Mangrove Discovery Experience: Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Roebuck Bay's low tide mangrove ecosystem with local Aboriginal tour guide Bart Pigram sharing the culture and history of Broome and the bay. Tour to depart and return to Goolarri Media, 3 Blackman Street.

11:00am. Broome Film Showcase: (FREE) Goolarri Media presents a selection of short films made in, for and about the Dampier Peninsula. Be entertained by the spectacular creativity and informed by the unique access of our pool of local film makers.

11:00am. A Taste of Broome Cultural Hub: (FREE) Come and learn about the cultural diversity and heritage of Broome through this Free, interactive hub of experiences curated to entertain and inform the participants.

2:30pm. Mabu Buru Tours: Local Indigenous tour guides from Mabu Buru Tours will be taking tour groups around the Broome Peninsula visiting historic and cultural locations. Tour to depart and return to Goolarri Media, 3 Blackman Street.

5:00pm. Stephen Pigram and the Nagla Wamba Band's Fish Soup and Rice Concert: Sadly, this event is no longer going ahead.


Saturday 26th August

11:00am & 11:45am. Sandfly Circus: Theatre Kimberley’s Act Belong Commit Sandfly Circus will present two exciting and invigorating 20 minute family shows of hilarity and awe inspiring feats.

11:00am. A Taste of Broome Cultural Hub: (FREE) Come and learn about the cultural diversity and heritage of Broome through this Free, interactive hub of experiences curated to entertain and inform the participants.

1:15pm Kimberley Cooking Experience: Come and experience, taste and learn about our rich culinary history in this interactive, multi-sensory feast. Goolarri Media Gimme Club.

2:30pm. Mabu Buru Tours: Local Indigenous tour guides from Mabu Buru Tours will be taking tour groups around the Broome Peninsula visiting historic and cultural locations. Tour to depart and return to Goolarri Media, 3 Blackman Street.

A Taste of Broome Soiree: (FREE) Need a moment to breathe and chill out this Kimberley Festival season? head on down to this soiree for a splendid evening of chilled out music in our beautiful gardens. Featuring some of the region's best emerging and established musicians. This event is FREE!!! Just rock up and enjoy yourself. The bar will be open, the vibes will be vibing.



Friday and Saturday - visit the Cultural Hub at Goolarri Media Amphitheatre

CULTURAL HUB // 11am – 4pm Friday and Saturday

From puppet making, dance and language workshops to throw net lessons, fish trap building and diving stories, the Cultural Hub is a hive of FREE family activities in this year’s festival. With doors open 11am – 4pm both Friday and Saturday at the Goolarri Media Amphitheatre, the Cultural Hub is also hosting "Wanggajarli Burugun”. Wanggajarli Burugun (we are coming home) is a community-led multi-faceted project that aims to bring all ancestors home who were removed from Yawuru country during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. With a dynamic schedule of talks, demonstrations, and food stalls throughout the weekend, make the time to dive into something special.
