The Kim­ber­ley Ports Author­i­ty has been enabled under the Ports Leg­is­la­tion Amend­ment Act 2014.

The Min­is­ter and the Depart­ment of Trans­port under­took a review of ​“The Role of Ports in West­ern Aus­tralia” in 2012 which ini­ti­at­ed the ports amal­ga­ma­tion process. Resul­tant­ly, the Kim­ber­ley Ports Author­i­ty will in due course assume the cur­rent Depart­ment of Trans­port respon­si­bil­i­ties at the fol­low­ing ports:

Wyn­d­ham Port

Der­by Port

Yampi Sound ports of Cock­a­too and Koolan Islands (poten­tial­ly Irvine Island)
